Il Desco Bistrot, an organic restaurant specialising in vegetarian and gluten free food, provides sustainability and flavour in the centre of Florence and our choice of an authentic and tasty cuisine is deeply rooted in our history.

My name is Giulia and I started this work and life project with Sham, deciding together, from the very beginning, to base the cuisine of the Il Desco Bistrot on simple yet essential principles: taste and sustainability.


We come from two families with completely different eating habits, one based on the traditional farming of Tuscany and the other strictly vegetarian with middle eastern influences. Nevertheless from our childhoods we were both used to fresh and seasonal ingredients and flavours.

On this basis, we founded our restaurant, which offers a first class quality cuisine with special focus on flavour and the pleasure of eating.
Another fundamental aspect of our vision is to guarantee a warm and heartfelt welcome which for us and for our team means sincerity, a love for tradition as well as an open attitude towards the world and diversity. To all those who come to our restaurant, both Florentine citizens and friends from all over the world, we offer a relaxed and joyful atmosphere together with good Italian food, and we take special care of every religious, cultural and dietary requirement.

And just two steps away from the Cathedral of Florence we manage to offer excellent fresh ingredients thanks to the work of my sister Elena at our family farm “Podere La Croce”, in the Tuscan hills, 40 km away from the city centre. She takes care of a vegetable garden, an olive grove and an orchard of fruit trees using an organic farming method, supplying us with top quality products every day that we transform and enhance with simple and tasty recipes.
